Jon Weinstein was elected to represent Howard County’s District 1, including Ellicott City, Elkridge, Hanover, and Columbia.
Jon has embraced leadership and service roles starting in high school and throughout his adult life. His grandmother, a Russian immigrant who shared her love for America and her belief that citizens should give back to their country and community inspired Jon. This fueled Jon’s desire to serve and contributed to his decision to join the Army ROTC program. He solidified his passion for service and politics while in college, where he hosted a political commentary radio show and was active in campus political organizations.
Jon graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserves. Soon after college, Jon married his high school sweetheart, Margaret. Jon and Margaret moved to Washington, D.C. where he earned his Master’s Degree in International Studies at The American University. During this time, he began his service in the Military Police Reserves. Jon served as a Company Training Officer in the 220th MP Brigade HHC.
Jon has served in leadership positions for local and statewide community organizations, including the Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation. Since moving to Howard County nearly 20 years ago, Jon has been active in our community. Jon was appointed to serve on the County’s Spending Affordability Advisory Committee. He has coached local youth sports, served on committees of his community association and synagogue, and has been an active parent in his sons’ schools. Jon is most proud of his involvement in the Ellicott City Historic District. He organized and facilitated community sessions that contributed to the formation of the Historic District Partnership. He is a founding member of that organization.
Jon is the co-founder and President of Line of Sight, a consulting firm in Howard County focused on improving government performance. He is a certified Project Management Professional and has over 20 years of experience working with government and private sector clients. Jon has authored several articles and two books, and has spoken on management and leadership topics across the US, Europe, and Africa.
Jon and his wife, Margaret, chose to live in Howard County nearly 20 years ago and have raised their two sons, Zach and Ben, both graduates of Mt. Hebron High School, in the best community in America!
